Going into the game, Cheeks said his major concern was coming out healthy for next Wednesday's regular-season opener at home against Toronto. The 14 3-pointers by the NBA's worst shooting team from long range last season only made Cheeks smile. It came a night after his team was 0-for-9 from 3-point range in a loss to Cleveland.

"Some days you make them, some days you don't," Cheeks said. "If we keep on working, hopefully we will have more nights like this."

Williams said hitting their 3-pointers will open the court for the 76ers, who made only 31.7 percent from long range last season. They made eight or more 3-pointers only four times in 82 games.

"We're a running team and we like to get open-floor looks," said Williams, who was 5-of-6 from long range. "When we make threes, we're a dangerous team. We like to get to the rim, and if we hit the outside shot, it gives us another option."

The victory gave the 76ers a 4-3 record for the preseason.

"I think we're OK," Philadelphia forward Andre Iguodala said. "Of course, we need to get a little more crisp in the offense and cut a bit harder off Elton (Brand). We're still working on that and, maybe, we need to get better on the defensive end."

The Nets were no match for the 76ers, who also got 18 points from rookie Marreese Speights and 16 from Thaddeus Young.

"We have to become a more disciplined team on the defensive and offensive ends, and obviously we're not there yet," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said.

Yi Jianlian and rookie Brook Lopez had 16 points apiece for the Nets, who lost their fourth straight after opening the exhibition season with two wins over Miami in Europe.

Philadelphia hit eight 3s in the first half, opening a 62-50 lead. The 76ers hit their first four shots of the game with Kareem Rush, Williams and Iguodala all making 3-pointers. They finished 14-of-27 from three-point range, or 48.1 percent.

The 76ers led 12-0 and 18-6 before the Nets made their only run of the game. New Jersey got within two points at the end of the quarter and took a brief 31-30 lead on a rebound follow by rookie Ryan Anderson early in the second quarter.

Willie Green, who had 14 points, hit a baseline jumper on the next possession to ignite a 13-3 spurt that featured a 3-pointer by Donyell Marshall and consecutive baskets by Young.

Devin Harris had 13 points and Vince Carter and Maurice Ager added 12 apiece for New Jersey, which trailed by double digits almost the entire second half. Bobby Simmons and rookie Ryan Anderson had 11 points apiece.

New Jersey wraps up the preseason on Friday against the Knicks in New York. The Nets open the season next Wednesday at Washington.

Notes: Cheeks rested starting G Andre Miller and starting C Samuel Dalembert did not play because of sore knees and the flu. ... Nets F Josh Boone, who experienced a recent rapid heartbeat, has been cleared to practice next week.
