Kings-Nets Preview
A matchup with the Sacramento Kings would seem to give the New Jersey Nets an excellent chance to pick up a rare home win. However, they may not have Devin Harris available to bail them out this time.

With Harris' status uncertain, the Nets look to win two in a row at the Izod Center for the first time this season when they face the lowly Kings on Monday night.

New Jersey (16-18) has been hovering around .500 and is in contention for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference despite playing poorly at home. The Nets are 6-12 at the Izod Center, allowing 102.3 points per game, and haven't won consecutive games there since their last two contests of 2007-08.

New Jersey beat Atlanta 93-91 in overtime Friday night in its most recent home game, and will now be facing a Sacramento team that has lost 10 straight on the road. The Kings are giving up 107.7 points per game during the slide, their longest on the road since dropping their last 10 in 1997-98.

Without Harris, though, the Nets could be vulnerable against the Kings. New Jersey's starting point guard has a sore right hamstring and was inactive for a 101-96 overtime loss to Miami on Saturday night.

Harris leads the Nets with 23.7 points and 6.6 assists a contest. New Jersey is 0-4 without Harris, who missed three games in November due to a sprained ankle.

New Jersey shot 39.8 percent and committed 16 turnovers against the Heat en route to its first loss in five OT games this season.

"These will be learning experiences for our guys in terms of how hard and how strong you have to finish," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said.

The Nets clearly missed Harris in the extra period and his absence could be a big factor again Monday, as he came up big for the Nets in one such contest against Sacramento (8-26).

Harris lifted the Nets to a 116-114 overtime win over the Kings on Nov. 26, making a tying 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation. Then, with New Jersey trailing by one following a timeout in OT, his jumper gave the Nets a 115-114 lead with 12 seconds left.

The Kings were missing their own star guard in that contest, with Kevin Martin sitting out due to a sore left ankle.

Martin has since played three straight games after missing 10 in a row due to that injury, and is coming off his most impressive performance of the season. He scored a season-high 45 points in Sacramento's 122-117 loss to Indiana on Saturday night.

Martin went 13-of-24 from the field, 12-of-12 from the free-throw line and hit a career-high seven 3-pointers, although he missed a pair of 3s in the final minute. He finished with the most points for a reserve since Darius Miles scored 47 for Portland against Denver on April 19, 2005.

Martin is averaging 28.3 points since returning, but his outstanding play hasn't helped the Kings win, as they've dropped eight of their last nine.

"We got people in here that are still trying to improve and we have a lot of young guys," Sacramento guard Francisco Garcia said. "We just have to keep improving as a team and keep getting better."
