Mullens, Griffin top 2009 mock draft 2008-07-03

Mullens, Griffin top 2009 mock draft 2008-07-03
Now that the 2008 NBA draft is in the books, this will be the most accurate mock draft for next year that you'll find anywhere.

Then again, there's really no such thing as an accurate mock draft, is there?

1. B.J. Mullens, 7-1, 260, C, Fr., Ohio State — His numbers won't be eye-popping, but you just aren't going to find many 7-footers with this kind of skill and athleticism.

2008 NBA Draft

29. Wayne Ellington, 6-5, 195, SG, Jr., North Carolina — Should be able to play his way into the first round after his junior campaign due to his deep range.

30. Victor Claver, 6-10, 230, PF, Spain — A long and athletic face-up power forward who needs to get stronger to handle the rigors of the NBA.

31. Willie Warren, 6-4, 200, SG, Fr., Oklahoma — He's an enigma, but a talented enigma.

32. John Riek, 7-0, 240, C, IMG Academy — When we saw him a year ago, he dominated guys like Samardo Samuels and other top big men. However, he battled a knee injury all year. If he gets healthy, someone will grab him in the first round on potential.

33. Al-Farouq Aminu, 6-8, 210, F, Fr., Wake Forest — He's long, athletic and has plenty of potential.

34. Derrick Brown, 6-7, 225, PF, Jr., Xavier — Long and athletic, Brown has shown flashes and if he puts it all together this season, could rise quickly.

35. Scotty Hopson, 6-6, 195, SG, Fr., Tennessee — Extremely explosive athlete who can also make shots. The Vols will need him to step up quickly.

36. JaMychal Green, 6-8, 225, PF, Fr., Alabama — Now that Richard Hendrix is history, look for Green to become a force down low for the Crimson Tide. He's athletic, plays hard and can dominate on the glass.

37. Sam Young, 6-6, 215, F, Sr., Pittsburgh — Plays hard and is versatile, but he's still considered a tweener forward.

38. Greivis Vasquez, 6-6, 195, G, Jr., Maryland — The Terps' multi-dimensional guard has more than just flash to his game.

39. Omri Casspi, 6-7, 215, SF, Israel — Skilled forward who was productive for Maccabi Tel Aviv last season.

40. Sherron Collins, 5-11, 200, PG, Jr., Kansas — If Collins stays healthy, he'll be the guy in Lawrence this year. He's athletic, and as long as he keeps his weight under control he's one of the top floor leaders in the country.

41. Taj Gibson, 6-9, 225, PF, Jr., USC — Long and athletic, he should get more touches this year with the departure of O.J. Mayo and Davon Jefferson.

42. Terrence Williams, 6-5 1/2, 210, SF, Sr., Louisville — Strong and athletic, but needs to work on his perimeter shot.

43. Eric Maynor, 6-3, 170, PG, Sr., VCU — Knows how to run a team, but needs to continue to improve his ability to make shots from the perimeter.

44. Jeremy Pargo, 6-1½, 210, PG, Sr., Gonzaga — A strong point guard who doesn't have many weaknesses.
