DAYTONA BEACH -- NBA star Vince Carter and his mother, Michelle Carter-Scott, have moved forward with plans for a restaurant here, buying the land from Consolidated-Tomoka Land Co.
The Carters paid about $2.1 million for 2.75 acres on LPGA Boulevard, between Williamson Boulevard and Interstate 95, a Consolidated-Tomoka spokesman said. The 11,000-square-foot restaurant bearing the New Jersey Nets star's name will open in late summer 2009, according to a news release from Carter-Scott, a local resident.
The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner. "For several years, Vince has had a desire to open a business in this area. We wanted to create a destination, not just a restaurant," she said in the release.
Guests can choose from several dining experiences, including a piano bar called "Mikala's," a sports grill named the "Highlight Zone" and a VIP dining room tagged the "Owner's Box," as well as a main dining area. There also will be a souvenir kiosk.
Leading the culinary staff will be John Tinstman, former managing partner of Carrabba's Italian Grill. Longtime culinary professional Tom Papa will be corporate chef and Charles Mallory Jr. will be one of the operations chefs.
Cuhaci & Peterson Architects of Orlando designed the restaurant, incorporating a flying V. Hall Construction Co. of Daytona Beach will be the builder. Other members of the construction team include McMillen Land Surveying, Parker Mynchenberg & Associates and Schmidt Design Studio of Orlando.
