NEW YORK (AP) - Center Sean Williams was suspended two games by the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday for conduct detrimental to the team, two days after he was arrested in Denver.
Williams was arrested Monday at a cell phone store in a mall in suburban Denver. Police said he got into an argument with a clerk and threw a computer monitor. Williams was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and felony criminal mischief."Sean feels horrible," New Jersey coach Lawrence Frank said before the Nets' game at New York. "He feels horrible first for letting down the team, letting down his teammates, feels horrible for making a poor decision and he's sincerely heartbroken. He feels very, very bad."
Williams is averaging 2.5 points in 30 games this season. He didn't play Monday night against the Nuggets and will miss Wednesday's game at New York and Friday's home game against Miami.
He also was arrested last month at Boston College on a trespassing charge when he attended an Eagles basketball game. The charge was dropped after Eagles coach Al Skinner sent a letter saying he'd invited Williams to the game and was unaware of the no-trespass order.
Frank said Williams met individually earlier Wednesday with himself and team executives Rod Thorn and Kiki Vandeweghe and was contrite.
"He's got a great heart and he's made some poor decisions," Frank said, "but if you were to sit down like we did today and talk to him, he's a very engaging person and he's just made some mistakes and he has to take responsibility for them and we just move from there."
