Big words
Keyon Dooling played with Shaquille O'Neal and Dwight Howard so he knows talented big men and said the Nets have one in rookie Brook Lopez. "Don't be surprised if Brook is one of the top five centers in the league by the end of the year," Dooling said.
"This kid has barely scratched the surface of what he can be. He's a legit 7-footer, he has a knack for rebounding and blocking shots and I think what separates him from most centers is that he's got an extremely soft touch."
Let it go
Vince Carter has been back to Air Canada Centre more than 10 times since his 2004 trade and wishes the Toronto media would let go of the past. He gave short answers about this return.
"It's five years, bro," Carter said. "It's our next game."
Najera cares
Eduardo Najera knows he can help the Nets, but is bothered that after signing a four-year, $12 million contract injuries have prevented him from showing it.
"With the contract, I want to prove that I'm worth it," he said.
Najera, who was available after missing the past three games with a back and neck injury, is trying to regain his spot in the rotation, which rookie Ryan Anderson currently mans.
Briefs
Josh Boone (left-ankle bone bruise) likely will miss his fifth straight game tonight when the Nets host the Clippers. He could return during next week's four-game western trip. Coach Lawrence Frank said it's possible Chris Douglas-Roberts (sprained knee) also could return next week..
