New Jersey Nets Getting Inside 2008-12-03
A team with road wins over Utah, Phoenix, Toronto, Atlanta and a home win over Detroit should look at a weekly schedule containing home games against Washington and Minnesota and smile.

But the Nets have had little to smile about at home this season. Oh, they did beat Detroit and Atlanta at home. But on the same floor, they've also lost to Golden State, Indiana and now Washington.

So the on-paper "easy" week becomes a little tighter after the 20-point defeat to Washington. The Nets fought hard to get over .500 and at 9-8 entering Friday's game against the T-Wolves, they are determined to stay there.

"It's more the opportunity and situation," guard Vince Carter said, trying to explain the Nets' home misfortunes. "Of course, on the road it's given us a chance to bond more, just to come together and learn more about ourselves."

The Nets have won 13-of-18 home games in their history against the Wolves, including the last three of seven of the last eight. Since-departed Richard Jefferson averaged 24 points against the Timberwolves last season while Vince Carter averaged 21.

The Nets' chief headaches will be center Al Jefferson, who lit them up for a 40-point game last year, plus Mike Miller and Ryan Gomes, both excellent three-point shooters. The Nets, who were last in three-point defense most of the season, finally escaped the cellar. So now they're next to last.

WIZARDS 108, NETS 88: After impressive road wins in Sacramento, Utah and Phoenix, the Nets came home and got stomped by the NBA's last winless road team. The Wizards, entering as the league's worst three-point-shooting team (.287), rocked the Nets for 13-of-24 three-pointers (.542). Five of those came in the third quarter when the Wizards blasted the Nets, 35-12, upping a one-point halftime lead to 24. Devin Harris scored 18 and Vince Carter had 16 points for the Nets, hardly enough to offset three Wizards' 20-point scorers.
