The Nets finally come home after a four-game road trip that started poorly and ended pretty much the same way.
And they hope their next home game, Wednesday against the Raptors, goes a little better -- actually, a lot better -- than their last. When the Nets see the Raptors Wednesday it will be their first home game since their controversial 20-point blowout loss to Boston, leg three in what became a five-game losing streak. But that Boston game was where coach Lawrence Frank benched stars Vince Carter and Devin Harris for the second half.
So they hope to start fresh against Toronto after a 1-3 road trip ended with an embarrassing effort by most of the starters and most of the top reserves in a loss at Oklahoma City. This will be the fourth and final meeting of the season between the Atlantic rivals. The Nets are 2-1 in the season series.
The Nets won the most exciting game of the series, 129-127, when Vince Carter, who forced overtime with a long 3-pointer, took an inbounds pass from Bobby Simmons and dunked with :01.9 left to finished a brilliant 39-point game on Nov. 21 in Toronto. The Nets' other victory in the series was Dec. 12, also in Toronto, where Carter had a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double and rookie Ryan Anderson scored a personal-best 21 points in a 101-79 triumph.
The Raptors' win came in blowout fashion, 101-79, in New Jersey when Carter had the worst game of his life, shooting 0-of-13. Chris Bosh scored 18 for the Raptors.
THUNDER 94, NETS 85: The Nets ended their four-game road trip with a no-show effort for three quarters before a unit basically of three rookies and two players rarely used made the score respectable with 20 straight points in a 24-1 run. The Nets were abysmal in those three quarters, shooting .328. Rookie center Brook Lopez finished with 18 points but the backcourt of Vince Carter and Devin Harris combined to shoot 6-of-29. Kevin Durant, who the Thunder put back in the game with 63 seconds left when the Nets were within seven, scored 18 for the Thunder.
