New Jersey Nets Getting Inside 2009-11-11

New Jersey Nets Getting Inside 2009-11-11Just don't tell the Nets it could always get worse. That's because every time they turn around, it does.

Before they remained winless Saturday, losing a seventh straight game to extend their worst-ever NBA start, they learned forward Chris Douglas-Roberts was diagnosed with swine flu. Douglas-Roberts played Wednesday against Denver, was not feeling well Thursday and, as a precaution, was quarantined for 24 hours Friday. On Saturday, the team revealed he tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

"It's been 24 hours and, I'm not 100 percent sure, but the stage of him being contagious is a day or so and it's run its course," said coach Lawrence Frank. "I talked to him today; he doesn't sound very good."

And the Nets don't look very good. Douglas-Roberts was one of four starters to sit out a terrific, but losing, effort against the Celtics Saturday. He was on the shelf along with Devin Harris (groin), Yi Jianlian (knee) and Courtney Lee (groin). Also, Jarvis Hayes (hamstring) has been out since being injured in the first game. Plus Tony Battie (knee) and Keyon Dooling (hip surgery rehab) have been out since preseason.

Douglas-Roberts was "treated accordingly for the illness" by the Nets, who followed "all precautionary measures" mandated by the NBA. A team spokesman said he might be back as soon as Wednesday. And he might be rejoined by Lee in the rematch against the Sixers. Lee was injured in Philadelphia Friday during the 97-94 loss to the Sixers, which came despite an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter and 22 points plus 11 rebounds from Brook Lopez.

CELTICS 86, NETS 76: A hard-working two-way effort, but especially on defense, all went for naught as the undermanned Nets undid themselves with 24 turnovers and a scoreless finish to the game that covered the last 2:57. The Nets gave Boston all it wanted, despite a depleted roster that had just eight available bodies. Among the seven players out were four starters from the opening-night game. The Nets led after three quarters, but ultimately were undone by Boston's talent and depth. Brook Lopez led the Nets with 23 points.
