New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-09-19

New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-09-19--G Devin Harris knows the Nets are pretty much his team now after the departure via trade of Vince Carter. And he is fine with the added responsibility. But Harris, a young veteran at 26 (he already has played six seasons), knows the leadership role won't be his alone.

"We have so many veterans, it won't be two main guys," said Harris, referring to himself and Carter who did most of the heavy lifting last season. "I think Eddie (Najera) will play a big part of it, as well as Keyon (Dooling). Rafer (Alston) is starting to take a little of the leadership. The point guards are usually the main guys because we have the ball. But Eddie and Tony (Battie) can chip in a little at a time. It won't be two main guys. I mean, it will be myself more than anybody else, but we have enough guys who can speak up."

--The Nets are running a rather intriguing promotion that really falls under a love it or hate it umbrella. The Nets are offering a 10-game ticket plan -- a "Match-Up" plan -- that includes five reversible jerseys. The jerseys feature the Nets on one side and five opponents -- with their star's numbers -- on the other. The promo jerseys are the Cavs (LeBron James), Lakers (Kobe Bryant), Magic (Dwight Howard), Heat (Dwyane Wade) and Celtics (Kevin Garnett). The plan has been praised for its boldness, while at the same time ripped for its featuring of a Nets' opponent. The corresponding Nets' player numbers featured are Jarvis Hayes, Courtney Lee, Brook Lopez, Devin Harris and Yi Jianlian. For every two tickets purchased under the plan, fans get one jersey.

Nets CEO Brett Yormark has steadfastly defended the plan. He noted the Nets cater and market themselves to even the casual fan in New Jersey.

"As much as they like the Nets, they also like the opposing star players. The Match-Up plan enables us to market our players as well as the star players in the league," Yormark said.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "If you look at our team from top to bottom, we don't have a lot of big names, but we have a lot of good players." -- G Devin Harris stressing the Nets can be a competent, quality team without superstar players.
