New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-01

New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-01--When the Nets swung this year's draft time megadeal, sending Vince Carter to Orlando, Rafer Alston was part of the return package. With Devin Harris in place as the starter, that then gave the Nets impressive depth at point guard, even with Keyon Dooling destined for surgery. But Dooling is still rehabbing from his arthroscopic hip surgery and now Harris is down for seven-to-10 days at least with a sore right groin. Suddenly the depth is challenged.

"Good thing we drafted Terrence," joked Harris.

And that would be Terrence Williams, who last week was talking about playing the four in a small lineup. Williams now finds himself as the emergency point guard.

"It's a challenge, I'm up for it," said Williams, the rookie out of Louisville. "You get thrown right into the fire. One day I've got to guard Elton Brand. Next, Louis Williams, Vince Carter and then Gilbert Arenas."

--The first two games of the season cost the Nets two rotation players. Jarvis Hayes strained his left hamstring in the season opener and then in the second game, Devin Harris felt a sore right groin that troubled him in preseason get worse. Hayes is out up to three weeks. Harris is down for seven-to-10 days -- the Nets hope.

"We're shooting for seven-to-10, maybe longer. I can probably guarantee it won't be shorter," said Harris, who has vowed to return only after he feels completely healthy.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I'll just categorize it right in this one game. It's pitiful." -- Coach Lawrence Frank, when asked about the state of the team defense after a 123-104 loss in Washington.
