New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-05

New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-11-05--The unforeseeable rash of injuries that has befallen the Nets not only reduced them to 10 bodies for Wednesday game, but also has left them scrambling to fill positions. For example, in summer they had a depth chart that showed three proven point guards with Devin Harris, Keyon Dooling and Rafer Alston.

But Dooling is still rehabbing from hip surgery and Harris is out with a groin strain. So experience at point went out the window as rookie Terrence Williams became the backup one. And at power forward, after Yi Jianlian sprained his knee reducing the Nets' size, coach Lawrence Frank scrambled to fill the spot, using a combination of centers, power forwards, even wings.

"With all the injuries, it makes it tough," Frank admitted. "We need a backup point. We also need a backup wing and potentially, we may also need a backup four. So the injuries impact a lot of other things as well, in terms of rotation."

--G Chris Douglas-Roberts figured he would try something different to snap the Nets out of their third quarter doldrums. It didn't work.

The Nuggets rung up 44 points in the third quarter. The five-game total now sees the Nets being outscored, 147-102, in the third quarter alone.

"I preach it all the time, the third quarters. Every game we played I came in here and said we have to come out strong in the third quarter. I didn't this one. I tried to change it but (we had) the same result," Douglas-Roberts said. "We all just need to take responsibility for ourselves and we'll be fine."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Having been in this for a long time now, I've seen this happen. It seems to happen in groups and bunches, and maybe we just get them all out of the way at the beginning. That's hopefully what happens." -- Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe, on the injuries that already have reduced the Nets to 10 players.
