--G Terrence Williams sat a second straight game as Nets' brass continued driving home their message that the game is more than shooting. Williams had been yanked Sunday after playing 9:24 and the complaint was more for his defense than his shooting, which had bottomed out at 11-of-44 (.250) over a six-game period. Williams then put a few negative messages on his Twitter account and was benched after that. He may be fined for the posts but interim coach Kiki Vandeweghe insisted Williams' sitting was not related to the Twitter posts. "What he has to do is utilize. He's got great God-given talents. Our job is to get him to utilize those effectively," Vandeweghe said.
--Forward/guard Chris Douglas Roberts is getting accustomed to giving away a lot in height and weight, but nothing in competitive spirit, as he handles the Nets small forward duties.
"I really love the challenges and anticipate them and look forward to them," Douglas-Roberts said of playing against the Carmelo Anthonys and Luol Dengs and Gerald Wallaces of the world. "If I had it my way I'd never want a night off or guard a guy who just stands in the corner and doesn't test me. I want to see how good I am, so it doesn't matter to me who I'm checking."
Interim coach Kiki Vandeweghe admitted he is surprised at how the 6-7, 210-pound Douglas-Roberts has succeeded.
"In some ways, yeah," he said, "if you just look at it on the surface. But Chris is a guy who's just really competitive. He's just an ultra-competitive guy. What sets him apart and at times why he's been able to guard bigger guys is he's just very competitive and never stops trying."
