New Jersey Nets Notes, Quotes 2009-08-21
--The Nets have been watchers and callers rather than bidders on the free agent marketplace this summer, but one name that continually has surfaced is Glen "Big Baby" Davis, Boston's restricted free agent power forward. However, he re-signed with the Celtics.

--So much focus has been cast on the free agent summer of 2010. The Nets have positioned themselves with flexibility. But many feel the Nets, headed for what is looming as a long season, will not be able to attract any of the big names. A former big-name Net, Vince Carter, disagreed.

"It's tough but you never know. It will be a great opportunity for somebody, maybe a guy who wants an opportunity to build a team around him and play with Devin (Harris)," Carter offered. "You give them another guy or another stud, anything can happen. I think it's possible. I really do."

--As expected, assistant Brian Hill accepted a multi-year contract offer to join John Kuester's staff in Detroit where ex-Net coaches abound (Kuester, Hill, Pat Sullivan). Hill faced a substantial pay cut in New Jersey where he had only one guaranteed year remaining.

"Brian is a terrific coach and a better guy. Solid, all the way. He did a great job here and we hate to lose him. His coaching credentials are impeccable," said team president Rod Thorn.

Lawrence Frank, who received his first NBA coaching job from Hill as an assistant in Vancouver, echoed Thorn's sentiments.

"Brian is a terrific coach and an even better person. He's done a terrific job in New Jersey and we wish him nothing but success," Frank said.

Frank already has lost an advance scout and a coaching associate before Hill left. Also, assistant Roy Rogers had an offer to join the Rutgers staff.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Courtney, he's unbelievable. I like him. He's a high-energy, athletic guy." -- Ex-Net Vince Carter, discussing G Courtney Lee, the primary piece the Nets received when they traded Carter.
