Ryan Anderson, F, 6-10, California -- Lopez said Anderson possessed the best stroke in the Pac-10. Nets need him to stretch defense and be the recipient of kickouts from Devin Harris and Vince Carter. Needs to get better at creating his own shot. Could surprise as a rebounder.

Chris Douglas-Roberts, G/F, 6-7, Memphis -- Could be a real steal at 40. Not flashy but a player. Not a great shooter, but a scorer. "Deceptive," was how Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe labeled him. With the departure of Jefferson, Nets needed wing help.

PLAYER NOTES:

--Rookie wing Chris Douglas-Roberts is the player most familiar with the offense the Nets hope to install: it's basically the dribble-drive system John Calipari used at Memphis, Douglas-Roberts' former stamping grounds.

"It's going to be great for us," Douglas-Roberts said. "We have athletic guys who can get to the basket, and that's what this offense is about. It's a drive-and-kick system, it's perfectly suited for guys who can get into the paint."

--G Vince Carter went to Europe to help the NBA promote its preseason games overseas. The Nets and Miami Heat will play in Paris and London, the Wizards and Hornets will meet in Berlin and Barcelona.

"It was fun. A lot of work, but fun," Carter said. More importantly, Carter has impressed in workouts.

"Looks good. He looks 100 percent," coach Lawrence Frank said of Carter, who underwent off-season ankle surgery.

--F Yi Jianlian has only been in the NBA a little over a year, but he obviously has learned diplomacy quite well. He was asked if being benched last year in Milwaukee after starting bothered him at all.

"I think that it's important to go through these types of experiences to improve as a player." Yi claimed. "That's part of the whole learning experience."

Eventually he'll learn about trade demands and other American staples.
