When you open your presents today, try to remember some of the less fortunate people in the world such as the Steinbrenners, Sabathias and Teixeiras.
Looks as if the Madoff scandal didn?t hit the Yankees. Maybe Big Stein and family should cover the next bailout. But seriously, during this holiday season, fans of the area teams should realize all the gifts they?ve been given. The teams are spending money, in the Yankees? case close to $425 million, to get better. One that is trying to save money for 2010 has been one of the best stories in the NBA this season.
If you?re a Nets fan, ?tis really the season to be jolly. Your eyes should be as wide as a child opening gifts this morning, because this team has exceeded expectations.
It?s not winning a championship anytime soon, but if you were told for Christmas you could have the Nets 14-14 you would take that and not ask for a gift receipt.
Now, if you are a fan you could say the Nets should be better than .500. They have lost games they shouldn?t have, but they?ve also won some you didn?t expect.
So take what you have and see what happens as the season progresses, because individually the Nets are getting better and should improve as a team.
Devin Harris is an All-Star in-waiting. It would be a travesty if he doesn?t make it.
But the best tribute to him was when Jason Kidd returned with the Mavericks on Friday. At the end of Harris? 41-point night, the Izod Center crowd chanted "Thank you, Cu-ban," to Dallas owner Mark Cuban.
Harris came up huge again Tuesday, canning the game-winning jumper in Indiana, gift-wrapping a happy two-day holiday break for the Nets.
Harris has been the gift that keeps on giving for the Nets and their fans. They probably should thank Rod Thorn and Kiki Vandeweghe, too.
